    To be chosen amongst popular ; classical ; experimental ; contemporary
  • Introduction to Studio-Based Production Technologies (core)
    Introduction to MIDI arrangement ; sound recording ; production
  • Introduction to Interactive Arts (core)
    Max/MSP/Jitter package (cycling74.com/products/max) ; audio / MIDI / video / OpenGL
  • Contextual Studies 1 / Music and the Creative Industries (core)
    The sonic environment, music theory, music practice, musical technology and culture, past developments and their relationship to the present

Year 2 – Level 5

  • Applied Creative Music Technologies (core)
    with optional subjects:
    Advanced Composition [orchestration ; electroacoustic ; film music] ; Music and Multimedia Production [Sonic Arts] ; Music Computing and Digital Audio [Game Audio / Sound Design]; Advanced Interactive Arts [expand on L4 Learning Outcomes]
  • Advanced Production Technologies (core)
    Including Live Sound and mixing/mastering
  • Choice between:
    Digital Toy Design (optional)
    Working with Arduino to create prototype smart toys, using 3D printing techniques and embedded electronics
    Moving Image and VFX (optional)
    Introduction to the aesthetics and conventions of digital moving image making, the processes of pre-production, production and post-production for digital video and VFX
  • Contextual Studies 2 / Music and Media Context and Cultural Musicology (core)
    To demonstrate how music functions within the creative industries; and how it opens up questions of cultural, historical, technological and economic theory and context.

  • Project (core)
    Creative investigation of a project work, either individually or as part of a group. Possibility of developing a combined project between Games and Music students
  • Project Development: Creative Music Technologies (core)
    Shared studios with partners to be chosen from:
    Music / Games / Interactive Arts / Dance / Theatre / Multimedia / Film
  • Long Work Related Learning (core)
    Real work for a client, using existing skills.
  • Dissertation (core)
    A platform for ambitious individual work. The student undertakes a genuine and worthwhile enquiry into a topic of his or her own choice.
