About BSc Computer Games

Year 1
Students can choose to follow a technical or a design pathway after their first semester. There is an emphasis on teamwork and the development of good communication skills throughout the course. Modules include:
- Gamelab Portfolio - introduction to games programming, C#
- Introduction to Computer Graphics - 2D/3D (DEMO)
- Introduction to Computer Games
- Web Game Development - Flash AS3
- Pathway Choices:
- Introduction to C++
- Time-based Media - streaming audio/video, podcasting
- Options:
- Maths Techniques - trigonometry, algebra, vectors
- Java / Animation / Multimedia / Web Design
Year 2
Technical students focus on programming; design students focus on scripting and asset-building. All students work together to produce prototype games for a variety of platforms. Students start professional work for Gamelab London, contributing towards a client brief. Modules include:
- Gamelab Portfolio - 3D XBox game, C#
- 3D simulation - modding / shaders, C++/C#
- Professional Development - software engineering for games
- Pathway Choices:
- Specialist Programming - C++
- Advanced Games Programming - C++ /OpenGL
- 3D modelling and animation - Maya (DEMO)
- Digital Toy Design - physical computing
Year 3
There is a lot of freedom for students to develop their skills in distinct areas. Students do an internship at Gamelab London and take masterclasses in core subjects.
